Silesian Stadium

Stadion Śląski event calendar

Sports, concerts and conferences in one calendar. We built a Laravel website that brings together events, the venue's offer and links to various ticketing systems. Stadion Śląski in Silesian Park in Chorzów is the largest athletics venue in Poland. Opened in 1956, after a modernization completed in 2017 it holds nearly 55,000 spectators, and up to 85,000 for concerts. It hosts a Diamond League meeting, the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, as well as concerts and conferences. The venue also offers tours: the locker room, the pitch, the museum and the press box.

× Before
  • Three types of events in one place. Sports, concerts and conferences have different audiences and a different rhythm. The calendar had to show them together, but clearly. An athletics fan shouldn't have to wade through industry conferences to find a meeting.
  • The venue's offer alongside events. The stadium isn't just an event in a calendar. It's also a conference center and a tour destination that has to be presented to businesses and tourists.
  • Different ticketing systems. Each event may sell tickets through a different system, depending on the organizer. The site had to lead to the right place for every event.
  • Disclosure obligations. The stadium publishes a Public Information Bulletin (BIP). The link to the BIP needed a permanent, easy-to-find place, separate from content for fans.
  • Large traffic spikes. At a venue that holds up to 85,000 people for a concert, interest in the website jumps sharply ahead of big events. The site has to handle it.
→ Our approach

An events site built on Laravel

  • Laravel as the foundation. We chose Laravel because a venue website isn't a typical blog. An event calendar with many types and relationships requires a flexible data model, and Laravel gives full control over it.
  • Event calendar. We built a calendar that combines sports, concerts and conferences. Each event has its own page with the date, description and path to tickets. The event type makes it possible to tell a game, a concert and a conference apart at a glance.
  • Ticket links per event. Each event has its own link to a ticketing system. The editorial team enters it when adding the event, and visitors go straight to the sale.
  • Conference center offer. We created a dedicated section for companies that want to hold a conference or event at the stadium. It's a separate path for business clients looking for rooms, organizational options and contact details, not a concert schedule.
  • Stadium page. The history, venue specifications and tours have their own page. Fans, tourists and organizers find the essential information here.
  • A permanent BIP link. We placed the link to the Public Information Bulletin in a fixed spot on the site. The disclosure obligation is met without mixing it with content for fans.
  • An admin for the venue's editorial team. The stadium team adds events, descriptions and ticket links on its own. A new concert appears in the calendar without a developer.
  • Event pages. Every event has its own page with the date, description and ticket link. It's a place that social media and press materials can link to.

Managing a sports or events venue?

We'll build a website that brings together your event calendar, venue offer and ticket sales. If you manage a venue that hosts different events, your site has to work like a calendar, not a business card. Every event should have its own page and its own path to tickets, regardless of who sells them. The offer for businesses and tourists needs separate paths, because their questions differ from those of fans. When the data model is unusual, a framework like Laravel gives more freedom than an off-the-shelf template system.
